Position Announcement: Communications Fellow

The office of Senator Julie Gonzales seeks a talented, innovative communications specialist to assist the office with social media, newsletters, photography, video production, and graphic design. This is a part-time position requiring between 8 and 10 hours of work per week and will pay a monthly stipend of $700 dollars from January through May.

About Senator Julie Gonzales

Senator Julie Gonzales is a progressive Democrat serving north, west, and downtown Denver in the Colorado State Senate. With roots that stretch back generations in Colorado, Julie has spent her life organizing working people, Latinos, and young people on issues of affordable housing, educational justice, and immigrant rights. In her first three years in office, Senator Gonzales strengthened protections for immigrant communities from ICE, repealed the death penalty, streamlined Colorado’s marijuana regulations, and allocated hundreds of millions of dollars for affordable housing.

Job Responsibilities

Supporting a champion for working people with a strong progressive track record requires frequent, innovative, and accessible communication to ensure constituents and supporters are kept up to date. The Communications Fellow will work under supervision of Senator Gonzales’s Chief of Staff and interface directly with Senator Gonzales in a mixture of in-person and remote capacities. Responsibilities include:

  • Scripting, shooting, and editing videos
  • Capturing and editing photos 
  • Designing graphics and social media tiles
  • Drafting social media and newsletter content 

Skills and Qualifications

The Communications Fellow will demonstrate the ability to tackle goals and projects with humor and enthusiasm, also known as ganas. You’re the right person for this if:

  • You’re comfortable channeling the voice of a progressive legislator who fights for equity and justicia 
  • You’re well organized, know details matter, and are excellent at completing tasks without micromanagement 
  • You’re experienced using Canva (or other design software), Mailchimp, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • You have experience scripting, shooting, and editing video 
  • You have an eye for good design and an ear for clear and effective messaging 
  • You take good photos 
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaker preferred
